Vibrato begins with listening
A singer first distinguishes steady pitch, pulse and free oscillation instead of trying to shake the sound.
- Sing a stable comfortable pitch and record it.
- Add the phonetic pattern without increasing volume.
- Return to the musical phrase and check pitch direction.
Vibrato is not shaking the note
Forced movement can disturb pitch and phrase. The singer first hears a stable note and the character of the oscillation.
Phonetic work
A repeated phonetic action creates a clear pulse without adding throat pressure. Volume remains moderate.
Mechanical sensation
A controlled movement can introduce the sensation, but it is temporary. The voice must later maintain the result without the external movement.
Return to the phrase
Use one sustained note from the repertoire. Check the center of pitch, the word and the direction after vibrato appears.
